🎭 I AM A CULTURE LOVER

Our vision

Culture is relaxation, it opens up the world, it puts you in touch with yourself and others, and is history. Culture is indispensable. It is also very diverse: it is about the books and digital offerings in the library, activities in CC De Warandepoort, support for cultural associations. The role of the municipality is therefore diverse, but with the common thread that the municipality should facilitate cultural experiences for everyone.

Our three priorities

  • In Vossem you have the village festivals and Grute Plattoo, in Duisburg you have the village festivals, and in Moorsel the folk festivals. All these village festivals deserve proper support. And subsidies should be indexed. In Tervuren centre, there are separate initiatives that are not yet sufficiently coordinated. We want the municipality to launch an open bid for village festivals in Tervuren. The existing flea market and scout village may of course be integrated into this.
  • With the painted electricity substations (= Tour Elentrik), Dotremont on the Market Square and most recently the artwork in the Koninklijke Moestuin, we have brought art to the street. We want to continue this until eventually every grey or green box has become a work of art. Dark alleys like the one between Karblok Street and Paardenmarkt Street, or the neighbourhood alley along GBST, can also be brightened up with art.
  • We must further develop a policy and management plan for conservation of our churches and other heritage. Maintaining our churches places a heavy cost on the community. But as monuments to our history and focal points of each village, they should obviously be kept in good condition. At the same time, there should be a public debate on what to do with them. We feel that the Moorsel church should be considered in the debate on a new centre for Moorsel. Perhaps the church could house some functions we lack as a community? A convenience store? A climbing wall, or gymnasium? As part of the school? Repurposing should also be explored for the churches in Vossem and Duisburg.
