Our vision
In Tervuren, as elsewhere in Flanders, there is an increasingly ageing population. Growing old in a healthy and happy way requires a policy tailored to your specific needs: the necessary home services to continue to live independently at home for as long as possible, and fun and affordable activities during the day which are also accessible to those who are less mobile. And this in a pleasant and safe environment.Â
The Senior Citizens Advisory Council plays an important advisory role.
Â
Our three priorities
- We want to bring people together. Besides community work, we also want to set up a meeting centre in the form of a "recognised local service centre" in Tervuren. Part of this is a social restaurant, which operates more than four times a year, in each part of Tervuren. In addition, more effort should be put into bringing young and old together through participation, solidarity, and empathy.
- We will continue the fight against loneliness, for example through the "neighbours visit neighbours" project, where volunteers take time to go and have a chat with people over 80. Another fun project is "Ageless Cycling", where people who are not or no longer as mobile are picked up by a bicycle rickshaw. This expands the target group's world a little and provides time for a chat along the way.Â
- Older people want to move with the times. This also means participating in the digital world. The municipality should adopt more training and other initiatives to reduce the digital divide. We want to further strengthen the existing digital doctor initiative. By simplifying all the various tools (e-box, federal, Flemish, and local systems), the municipality can take its own initiatives to reduce the digital gap. The digitisation of administration should not exclude anyone. That is why we always provide the option for those who are not conversant or cannot keep up digitally. But traditional methods of communication should not be neglected, to help those Tervuren residents who no longer want to or cannot switch to digital communication.
