Our vision
Gone are the days when politicians had to earn a vote once every six years and then make all the decisions on their own! Our vision of the future is one of permanent dialogue between politicians, civil servants and citizens. Therefore, we must improve participation, democracy and the provision of information. Ultimately, every citizen must be heard.
Our three priorities
- When Groen+Vooruit is part of the local government, our attitude is constructive, fact-based and participatory. We want to involve the population much earlier and much more consistently. To this end, we are writing a participation framework and recruit an (intermunicipal) participation officer.
- Neighbourhood budgets: Every year, one borough gets the chance to commission concrete measures for a sum of €25,000. It is the residents of the borough, not politicians, who decide what the money will be spent on. To ensure that the funds are well spent and serve the general interest, we write clear regulations.
- We organise a weekly consultation hour with one alderman, so citizens can go directly to the municipal administration without an appointment to put questions.
